ABSTRACT:
Background: The demand for natural and eco-friendly skincare products has grown significantly in recent years. Orange peel, a by-product of citrus fruits, is rich in antioxidants and bioactive compounds beneficial for skin health. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate a herbal face serum using orange peel extract for its potential antioxidant and cosmetic benefits. Materials and Methods: The face serum was formulated using orange peel extract, aloe vera gel, glycerine, HPMC, vitamin E, orange oil, and other excipients. Three formulations (F1, F2, F3) were developed and evaluated for key physicochemical properties including pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogeneity, stability, and antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH free radical scavenging assay, and the IC50 value was calculated graphically. Results: Among the three formulations, F3 demonstrated optimal characteristics with a pH of 6.4±0.3, viscosity of 247±8.1cP, and spreadability of 6.2±0.2cm. It exhibited excellent homogeneity and physical stability over four weeks. The DPPH assay revealed that F3 showed the highest antioxidant activity, with 71.7% inhibition at 100 µL concentration and an IC50 value of 39.5µL. Conclusion: The formulated orange peel extract-based face serum demonstrated favourable physicochemical properties and significant antioxidant potential, making it a promising candidate for natural cosmetic applications in skincare.
